For this project I chose question 8, storage solutions, I decided to choose this because I saw the images of solutions like suitcases and shoe-boxes and decided to look at more modern options such as iPods and Hard Drives. I will try thinking outside the box, literally, and investigate the evolution of storage from boxes to flash drives, and the growing capacity that gadgets can hold.
Many artists use these objects as inspiration such as Erika Iris Simmons who uses tape pulled from cassettes to create beautiful portraits of famous stars. The designers of storage solutions create them to be aesthetically pleasing such as the iPod designed by Jonathan Ive; on the other hand some designs were not so successful (the AC Nielsen MP3 player).
I will aim to build a portfolio consisting of primary research, such as photographs of shoeboxes, iPods and containers. With these photographs I will create a body of imagery including dry-point prints, mono-prints, illustrations and photo manipulations. I will also gather secondary research including photographs, paintings, illustrations and promotional material. This secondary research should hopefully inspire me to create my own imagery.
I hope to use my imagery to create a final piece of promotional material to identify a piece of storage material I will be looking at my secondary research to decide what object I will use.
