Bernie Reid

Bernie Reid is a photographer and illustrator who combines both of her disciplines in this piece.
This image was created from a black and white photograph, the background has marks on which help give the figure shape. Without these marks the lady would blend into the background.
The mood of the illustration is somewhat risqué, but I believe that the figure has been captured in a tasteful way. The piece has a slightly gritty feel due to the marks being blurred slightly out of focus.
The composition is balanced and set in portrait, the focal point I feel is the face this is because the rest of the piece is slightly more subdued.
The vantage point is level to the lady, resulting her not appearing powerful or vulnerable unlike many portraits. Being a stencil we do not see any colour, just black and white, resulting in the piece being extremely high contrast.
